Chad's Story

Chad H. Colvin

(1995 - 2017)

Chad grew up in Flower Mound, Texas.

He lived out loud, brimming with energy, creativity, generosity, and kindness.

Chad's light was brightest after joining The Winston School in Dallas, Texas.

The Winston School is a small college preparatory school designed to maximize the potential of bright students who learn differently. Through opportunities in arts and sports, Winston supports the development of the whole child, nurturing students in their social, emotional, cognitive, and academic development, alongside their physical and mental health. Through individualized learning plans, students are empowered to engage in academic learning, self-advocacy, and self-reliance.

Winston's visual arts programs such as painting, photography, and welding, provided Chad the perfect outlet for his amazing, God-given, artistic gifts. Chad also competed in numerous varsity sports at Winston, allowing him to compete and embrace the ideals and skills only afforded in team sports.

It was through these experiences where Chad discovered profound confidence, empowerment, understanding, acceptance, and joy. The Winston School makes these positive life experiences possible for all students, regardless of how he or she may learn.

Chad's passion and light will continue to shine as The Afterglow Legacy Foundation supports these same opportunities for neurodivergent students in his memory and honor. Chad is remembered by his compassionate heart, gentle yet exuberant spirit, and ability to both see and create beauty throughout life.

Though, through Christ, we have hope and patiently wait until we are reunited with Chad, he is deeply missed every day.
